Fya Mummah has a hold on the reggae fans and her voice and command is dominant that even the LION MAN Papah Chali gave her a thumbs up. Reggae Superstar dons Kijiji cultural House's bracelet at Concert

by Smallaxe magazine; the pioneer Rastafari Magazine in East and Central Africa.

“I love Jah Jah... oh yes ..I love him,” Don Carlos opened his Kenyan Sawa Sawa concert to an elated reggae fans. Packed in a stadium foreground; old, young, Chinese, European and Afrikans waltzed to his classics, hit after hit.

Wearing a white suit of elegant thread, under he wore a silky sky-blue shirt cuffed by enamel buttons, his distinct dread crown is unmistakably a Don Carlos novel demeanor. Backed by the Dub Vision band an all European band wearing a black sea of suit. To finalize the wardrobe, a Kijiji cultural House bracelet made sure that a passing glance would hardly miss the MessanJah had come to prophesy that the harvesting time is near.

Indeed on the material day some tares were self-evident as hooligans and unruly youths broke out “bang'arang”, despite calls and balls from Don Carlos himself fe dem to cool it. Shame pon dem yout mama nuh proud of. Movvee riotous youth go so, Zion nuh need fight. You heard.Rastafari Trully InI.memba.

Women football pulling it's straps up in Kenya.

by Under-14 Steering Committee

Women have often faced undue pressure from the society, when they engage in sporting activities. This is evidenced with the dismal performance of Kenyan women athletes and sporting icons. The group is susceptible to terminal involvement in sports once they conceive and start families.

But a small growing number of young girls from Majengo, just on the outskirts of the Central Business District, are defying this eventuality by vowing to stick determined to their sport of choice- in this case- football.

Just four of them namely; Naomi, Hanis, Pamela and Cindy train at the Landimawe grounds three times a week. The four have won the admiration of other women in the area who encourage them to pursue their footballing career. Men, too urges them to persist with their dreams.

Determination does not begin to define these ardent women footballers. Go Girls!!

Kenya's Independence Day marked with Sporting activities around Kamukunji.

The 47th Anniversary of Kenya's Independence was marked by His Honorable President Mwai Kibaki at the Nyayo National Stadium, in a pomp ambiance amongst the patriotic audience.

The presidential speech emphasized on independence and informed democratic affiliation on the coming up Constitutional reform referendum.

Meanwhile, in a grassy, tranquil pitch tacked between Kenya Railways' workshops and living quarters lies a nondescript, but now the famous “MacDonald Mariga Stadium”, named after the latest and first Kenyan player to join the Italian League Serie 'A'.

However, to many locals the stadium is still the same old Landimawe grounds where The Blackcats normally train every evening without failure in punctuality.

On this Madaraka Day, the Black cats were taking on guests Hope family. The latter put on a spirited fight but the exit wounds were far too severe for the contest, and, they fell, 2-1.

So, when the sun was slowly burning away at a hazy, sky-scrappered horizon, as mothers were calling out for their sons to come in, as the chicken were less wary and all lead in unison to roost, as the stadium easily lessened off, was I now convinced of that old African saying, “the pursuer and the pursued soon get tired and rest”.

In another vibrant part of Kamukunji, Majengo there was a boxing tournament organized by local youth and authorities's groups.

Among the most pressing issues, ailing most boxing teams around the Constituency is the lack of equipment to improve the standards of the game. Especially, the most essential of them all, a RING.

I hope the C.D.Fs committee are taking notice!!

What-would-I-do-different:

if I was to select a Kenyan National team for South Africa' World Cup Tournament come 11th June?

I would select a youthful team from various parts of the country. I would also retain the experienced technical bench for advisory purposes.

Strengthening the mid-field would be on top of my list of things to do. And MacDonald Mariga would feature here perfectly.

Coca-cola one of the Official Fifa partners in South Africa's World Cup

by Alex Kanyi

Not even the botched deal to rebrand the Nyayo National Stadium to Coca-cola stadium can tarnish the world multi-national beverage company's powerful brand. Coca-cola has now proved to be unbeatably the associative brand with The World Cup and football as it got the title Official FIFA Partner to the coming World Cup in South Africa. Making it the official partner for the fourth decade now in a row. Coca-cola has also been an official sponsor for the Olympics game since 1928.

Coca-cola Company which was started in 1944, in Atlanta, Georgia USA by John Pemberton was initially a coca-derivative wine. It has since seen many take overs including Pemberton's son Charley.

Today, Coca-cola is bottled locally in the more than 200 countries of manufacture, however, the syrup concentrate is still produced in the Atlanta laboratories. With its most prominent ingredient, coca leaves - although they would like to convince consumers that the coca leaves are "used" and less intoxicating. The Coca-cola Company remains the only recognized company allowed to import coca leaves from Peru and occassionally Bolivia.

Within the East African region, Coke is the number one carbonated beverage standing as the household drink for the whole family. With the world cup tournament drawing near advertisements have picked up a storm to catch the eye of many consumers.

Under the catch phrase Utadunda na nani? Kenyans have shifted their attention to the tournament in just less than a week to go.

Among other sponsors include; Adidas,Emirates,Sony,Hyundai motors and Corporate visa.

Know the game FAIR PLAY CODE

by Robert "Fergusson"Mukabi.
partially adapted and copied from the internet

Fair Play Code is an ethical and moral principle conduct document, FIFA imposes on its governance body as a credo in order to maintain the good repute and development of the game.

Ten in number the otherwise known as "The Ten Golden Rules" intend to form a close co-operation and patronage amongst all footballing stakeholders in the world. They include:

  • Playing Fair

Winning has no pleasure if victory has been acquired through deceit and cunning. Playing fair is the only way a game is worth participating in. Games are for the enjoyment of all contestants.

  • Play to win but accept defeat with dignity

There's an Old Swahili saying Asiyekubali kushindwa si mshindani, translates to He who is a bad loser is also a bad winner. Games are played to determine a winner, all opponents aim for this very goal, to win. But there can be only one winner, so the loser should accept defeat and strive to improve his skills for another contest.

  • Observe the Laws of the Game

There is nowhere you will find absolutely no rules, instructions, regulations or laws all at the same time. Football is an interesting game to learn how to play and even more enjoyable to play. Sometimes called the "beautiful game" in the world by some football romantics, it has simple rules and regulations that make it fun both to play and watch.

  • Respect opponents, team-mates, referees, officials and spectators

Fair Play means respect. Respect is part of our game. Without opponents there can be no game. Everyone has the same rights, including the right to be respected. Team-mates are colleagues. Form a team in which all members are equal. Referees are there to maintain discipline and Fair Play.

  • Promote the interests of football

Football is the world's greatest game. But it always needs everybody's help to maintain its greatness. Think of football's interests before your own. Think how your actions may affect the image of the game. Talk about the positive things in the game.

  • Honour those who defend football's good reputation

Those in a position to make known footballing Greats should do so as a gesture of Fair Play in a bid to improve the standards of the game. By donating, funding or contributing positively towards the improvement of the sport.

  • Reject corruption, drugs, racism, violence, gambling and other dangers to our sport

Football is a sporting activity that serves as a deterrent to negative behaviors, and sport is peace.

Say no to discrimination, drugs, violence, crime, GUNS and WAR.

  • Help others to resist corrupting pressures

Every Footballer should stand firm against influences that can bring discredit to his character and tarnish the good name of the game. He should desist from cheating, match fixing, and illegal gambling.

  • Denounce those who attempt to discredit our sport

Do not be ashamed to stand up to anybody who you are sure is trying to make others cheat or engage in other unacceptable behaviour. It is better to expose them and have them removed before they can do any damage. It is equally dishonest to go along with a dishonest act.

  • Use football to make a better world

Football has an incredible power, which can be used to make this world a better place in which everyone can live. Use this powerful platform to promote peace, equality, health and education for everyone.
